Black Dog event scouting

Postby Tawmass » Mon Mar 06, 2006 4:43 pm

FYI, I've been out the last two weekends looking for a good staging area in the Hood River/White Salmon area. I have a couple ideas, but if anyone knows of a place that would be ideal, let me know! :)

Tom: Does this mean there will be a "new" starting place for the Black Dog? We are leaving the south jetty staging area on Wednesday and headed home to Eugene. I will be setting up a DSL account with Qwest and will have a new e-mail address in he future (will let you know) I also will call "the hatchet man" to get an update on the "cat" ride. Well, we will talk at you later.... Jim Loveall. (the host at the south jetty)

HEY LOVEALL!
Yep, will be a new staging area, once I have it confirmed. Will be around the Columbia River area, either on Washington or Oregon side, so stay tuned!

Mosier RV campground

Postby dhally » Fri Mar 31, 2006 9:55 am

There is a huge campground on Carroll Road off Mosier Creek Road above Mosier. It used to be called Columbia River Gorge RV Resort. We camped there once and although it isn't super nice it is big.

After a short stretch of asphalt you can get up on some gravel roads and up to the power line from there.

The only problem is, its closed and I can't seem to find out a phone number to call. You might have to visit the place to get more info.

I thought they might be willing to lease it out for the weekend.

I have a friend in Hood River that checked on that and he couldn't find a contact either. Let me know if you find something, as I'm solidifying things asap.
thanks!

Tom, did you talk to Tobias about the Dee Mill site yet? Call Vince Goltz about
the place on Carroll Road-see if he will go over and look around. He only lives a mile or two from there.

Are you coming to Good Liver for the Bunny BBQ Saturday April 15?

Ok folks, it's official - we're once again staging out of Mt. Hood RV Village in Zig Zag. After scouring around and not really finding a place big enough to house the event (thanks for your help, Vern!), we resorted back to plan B at The Village. We do, however, have the Mt. Hood County Fairgrounds reserved for 2007 and I'm guessing we'll use that facility from now on.

With that info, I'll make the event flyers and get it posted. I'll also create a way for ya'll to enter online!

The huge piles of snow we have this year should make things very interesting for courses! :thumbright:

Well Tom: Where is the flyer? I have already reserved a site at the Mt. Hood Village. Now all I need is a FLYER. just kidding! Jim L.

Holy smoke, Jimbo, you come back from the coast and you're wilder than a March hare! :albino:

Hang tough, Jimbo, as I'm finishing up some details on the flyer, specifically with caveats for this year's snowpack!

oh boy ~ that is a byte o'bad news try this> http://www.bpcomp.com/midi/flyeagle.mid
perhaps I will just shedual Else to massage me for two days and forget about this ride entirely, ah yeah "thats the ticket"

as you well know the zig zag start and vastly diminished trail experence
i mean we have had some just utterly awesome rides from there
but that was ten years ago, 14 years ago...

in recent history we have gotten to ride some of those places backwards
and lately we have gotten to ride them NOT AT ALL

I am so used to it i can find my way from the after ride campfire "hour"
without a guide dawg or roll chart
even the sweepers no longer need to carry my sodden soul
back to my tent

I know all the shortcuts between beer and camp by heart
I know how to be a drunken monkie in a sidecar after dark
niether spilling my beer, nor pissing my pants

I pulled a soggie doggie out of doug fir glen
out of the back of my WET pickup a decade ago
I been up that horrid big black rock uphill waterbar after "lunch" thing east of McCubbinns more times than I want to even think about

up and down the powerline
up and down blue box
up and down to get more bucket drinks off a Honda 50 delivery truck

you know zig zags got more designations on it
than one could possibly fathom
they don't want us here ever again
two years ago they threw the wagon trains at the bikes
what part of the poly ticks
DONT YOU GET?

will you put a national dual sport on asphalt
and have to get permshition to do it?

well just let me be the deviles advocate
(after all, i really love bonnie meadows) don't yah know...

I would rather ride the first annual "we don't have clue yet"
where we are, in the great snow packed land north of the Columbia River

than come to another trailer parked ashpalt cancelleled
at the last minute at 4 PM the Friday before
patched up by Tawn (et all) at the last minute
thing

is this what we have sunk to the level of acceptance of ?

"well, you friday night ride on your steet legal bike up the road
ANYBODY ELSE COULD DRIVE UP EVEN ILLEGAL ALIENS
is now cancelled..."

I kNOW that Tawm has pulled some remarkable rabbits out of his hat
but the Forest Service at Sandy has "more powererfull deciet"
and frankly I am sick of driving all the way up there
and finding out they screwed us again

I would rather drive an additional 3 hours into Washington
and ride whatever trails Tom and crew can cobble together
And sleep next to a portapottie

than go back there................................
GET MY DRIFT ?

I do have some slight connections up in that area
will forward dircect monday

and yes snow pack an issue
aim for lower altituedes and more wash outs ahead

Yo Lee,
Will you share some of that stuff that you're smoking?
Rest assured that I ALWAYS come up with a new route every year for ya'll! My M.O. is minimal tarmac, and something new (if possible). I've already prayed to the dualsport Gods and come up with a route that will probably have you begging for mercy! Only real concern is the HUGE snowpack this year, so expect to be pushing the mighty XR through some challenging sections, hehe! Hint: the route I'm submitting hasn't been tried in over a decade!

News at 11!

to find the trail again bro
down toward the ground earth

orange dawg "made me do it"
her panting throbbing 200 cc's
and lack of trail skills
to boot

yeti the sex speed trans mission was an tremendiouse advance
we tryed to mount everything in sight
climb every thing that was in front of us
(are you onto the music yet?)

well tawm you old dawg
you got me doin XR 250 pushups now ?
<have a puff> http://www.bpcomp.com/midi/flyeagle.mid
< in case you have not ?>
the "wetlandze" trail deliverence trail payback
for tractor trail at klamath
