The 2009 Black Dog!

We did a short rip past my house and up Neal Creek Canyon. I passed these guys on the way up, then stopped to let the other hacks catch up.

Robert kept a weather eye peeled for the rest of the pack



They came thundering up behind us before long...

Dave waited atop the ridge at the head of Neal Creek Canyon to shoot some video. I hope it turns out!

We looped back to a check point at the fairgrounds, where Donna helped Andy spank the monkey!



Mr.Cob took his weiner out...

soon it was time to put the weiners away and hit the next section of the roll chart!

When we stopped for a reset we discovered Dave's muffler had come adrift


While Dave worked on his bike Andy and Robert picked up litter for points

What Would Ivan Do?


Ivan would bodge a repair with bailing wire and a bit of chain!

We headed southwest, over godbertson "road"





We went quite wrong at this intersection






we weren't alone in our confusion, we saw at least 2 dozen riders take the wrong fork. If only we had taken the path less traveled...

It really didn't matter. We found our way back to the route and down to the fairgrounds for Saturday's final checkpoint. We deposited our trash collections, signed back in and tried our hand at tossing screwdrivers and washers for more points

Although we were all "dog tired", we couldn't rest yet. Tommorrow was another day and Dave needed to weld up a bracket for his muffler







Andy's mounts had slipped and needed adjusting



And he still needed to wire in his odometer



And I wanted to swap the camera boom to his bike for the Sunday ride





We finally finished up, had some well earned pie and beer and I fell asleep with my boots on

Andy did great! The Spirit doesn't have much clearance and the suspension is way too soft, but he was able to set a brisk pace even through the roughest sections. Andy has a real knack for piloting these things!

His oldest boy, Jonathan, was s'posed to be his navigator for the Dog, but things came up and his plans changed. Donna was helping Tawm with the support crew, but took Saturday morning off to try out the sidecar experience. I think she had fun and really did a good job as monkey for a morning. When we got back to the fairgrounds at the end of the first section she had to go back to helping prep Sunday's roll chart so Andy was on his own for the rest of the day.

The start was a bit shorter on Sunday



Everyone is anxious to spank the monkey and get on with it



I am so proud of my nephew! Nic was the youngest rider to spank the monkey at the BlackDog!



and spanking the monkey was the only way a fellow could score that Sunday morning...a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do

The first section took us over Middle Mountain on Gilhouley Road

We wound our way over Mt.Hood, stopping briefly at Cooper Spur junction




...and around the South side of the mountain to White River Glacier



We took a break, had a snack, picked up some trash for points and reset our odometers before heading down FS48
