MotoX

Back at the begining of 2003 a group of us Oregon dualsport riders got together for a day at a Moto X track.

Ramey S, aka "Coach" rented the Salem mx arena and put out an invite for anyone on the group to attend if they wanted to.

Well we only needed to be asked once, and the next you knew you were knee high in dualsport bikes of all kinds, DR's, XRL's, Tigers, BMW's, KLR's, XT's and so on.

Sadly Coach had a serious mc accident recently, but he is making amends and we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.

Some of the riders.

Well there's riding and then there's riding. Scooting around the forest and doing some light trails and two track on a dualsport, doesn't really give you the skills needed for riding around an mx track. The first thing I noticed was the amount of leg strength you need for this kind of two wheeled fun.

After only three laps I could feel my muscles burning, so decided to grab my camera and take photo's of the rest of the riders. But, in my own defence I did have a pavement slap 2 weeks earlier while trying to do a wheelie for the camera, and did my ribs in. I guess that's just another sign of my lack of skill. "woe is me"

Greg :)

Hey, speaking of lack of skill, the photo above is of one of my riding buddies Greg on his DR650. I like riding with Greg, cause he makes me look good. I think he is still telling the story that his bike had no side stan and thats the only way he can park his bike. If that's the case, I wanna know why his on the floor too :-)

Gary on his KLR

Not wanting to start a fight here, but out of all the bikes at the meet, the XRL's out performed the rest of field. They were grabbing air at most of the jumps and making it look easy. But I did see some of the DR's and KLR's get some space between their wheels and mother earth also.

As with all good things in life, our time in the arena had come to an end way to quickly. The mx bikes were coming out onto the track, and we were given the signal for another two more laps before having to leave.

Larry didn't want to leave.

After a great mornings fun and entertainment, we all went over to a local Denny's to tell lies and exagerate.

If you've never had the chance to get on some kind of a track with your dualsport. Why not try it with a few buddies, hopefully you'll have a blast, as we did.

Appologies for the poor qualty pictures, but I have never claimed to be a pro-photograper, plus the lighting in the arena wasn't that good.
