8/4/18 Ridaho!

Postby Tawmass » Mon Aug 13, 2018 7:37 am

Joe McCormick, Marshall Lines (organizer for this event) and yours truly carpooled all the way from Southern Oregon to Baumgartner, Idaho in one day. Joe's truck pulled my little camper (maiden voyage), three bikes, two dogs (Joe's Dabby and my Scout) and us the entire way. It was tight, but we were excited to go riding in this area that I had been invited on so many times, but always had a conflict. Already there was Dave Hiatt and his friend Jim Lee. Also there was Bill Dart (Klamath Falls, OR), Gary Lambert (Winnemucca, NV) and his local friends Dave Wood, Zach and Scott. Making their way from Tillamook, Oregon was Curt Schonbrod, Daren Filosi and Chuck & Karen Merritt. We had a full house!

We arrived later in the day without incident. Chuck and crew got turned around in Mountain Home, Idaho, but swooped in after us. Daren was sporting a new, island-sized trailer that was so big it had its own zip code! How could we ride with so many people and not have issues? Only time would tell.

Day One

We awoke bright and early, had a quick breakfast and donned our riding gear. We had Bill leading the crew, as he is the all-knowing, all-seeing of the area, but we waited, and waited. He finally showed up at 10:30AM with us chomping at the bit.

We took off on the first single track with a destination of Iron Mountain Lookout at a height of 9600 feet! Dave Wood led us on the first trail. Holy cow, it was Wow, was it rocky getting there, but worth it - at least once!
