Vernon's Annual '07 Easter-Bunny Bash

Postby Tawmass » Sun Apr 08, 2007 1:06 pm

Again, thanks for the great time, Vern & Amy! The weather was semi palletable and didn't rain (much). Nice tunes, awesome chow, great entertainment, sweet rides. Can't ask for more! Sure hope Divey made it home okay after an attempt to fix a flat with a can of jizm.

Well I met up with the UMMG's on Saturday for the ride over to
Vernon's BBQ. After breakfast it was raining pretty good so I decided
to skip the afternoons activities and wimp out. But fate dealt it's
hand and not long after saying I was staying home I found myself on
my bike riding over with Tom, Ed and Dennis. The rain had pretty much
stopped and all we had to deal with was a sprinkle or two.

As we pulled into Vernon and Amy's place people were already gathered
and the shindig had begun. As in previous years there was a good
crowd of people drooling over all the different bikes, but I think
the Enfield won the "I won't it" award. There were lots of tasty
treat including BBQ Wabbit and a wide range of brews that seemed to
go down very well with nearly everyone that enjoys the amber nectar!.
Before long the live band was getting everyones feet tapping and air
was filled with sounds of fiddle playing. Tom N, has a little secret
he's been keeping and I was impressed with his guitar playing and
choir like voice (actually he was pretty darn good).

As with all things enjoyable, time had flown by and the next thing I
knew it was 5:00pm and time for me to head home. Just as I left the
ranch someone came running up to me and said I had a flat. I jumped
off the Beemer to find a rear rim touching the pavement L. Dennis
kindly ran down to the nearest petrol station and picked up a can of
fix-a-flat (I owe you money Dennis, remind me if I forget) After
applying the sticky goo I left with Tom and Ed. As we reached the gas
station Ed gassed up and I decided to go ahead as I was told to keep
the wheel moving that has the slimey stuff in it. When I reached Hood
River I took the first left, which turned out to be the wrong way.
After realizing my mistake I headed back the way I came only to see
Tom and Ed getting on to 84. They were going like a bat out of hell
trying to catch up to me as they were carrying the pump. I was now
behind them and laboring along with a deflating rear. About 5 miles
from Cascade Locks the rear tire was again flat and my escort was
racing off into the distance not knowing I was behind them in need of
assistance. I rode in the break-down lane for a few miles on a flat
until reaching exit 47. I pulled off and did the obligatory "Why me
dance while cussing sweet nothings to the sky". I pull out the ole
cell phone and tell God I'll be good and do better to help man kind
if I can get a reception. A ring tone has never sounded so good J I
put a call into the World Wide Rescue Team, "wife and my boys"
Nathan (eldest son) relpies this always happens to you dad, don't
worry Thunderbirds are GO !!!!

Three hours later I see the lights of my truck coming down the road.
Man, that was a long three hours :-) Within minutes the rescue team
had me loaded up and we were on our way to Wendy's for an all you can
eat treat off the 99 cent menu. We arrived back in Salem at
11:20pm.
